Therapy for Men’s Issues in Mississauga
As men we have been taught that going to a therapist is a sign of weakness, a sign that you have failed to solve your own problems; and talking about emotions is what women do, while men need to manage and be in control of their emotions. We are taught that being a man means we are to be strong, we protect, we solve problems, but what if I were to tell you, as a man, that I believe that being a man means you are to be courageous and there is nothing more courageous than facing yourself honestly, whether that be your behaviours or your feelings. We are here to help you face yourself in a new way, acknowledge and break your unhelpful patterns of behaviour, and access your deep emotions, and learn to be vulnerable in a healthy way.
What is Therapy and Counselling for Men’s Issues?
We know one of the most important factors for success in therapy is your relationship with your psychotherapist. We provide free consultations to ensure you feel comfortable right away, and if for some reason you don’t feel connected, we have another member of the team waiting to have a consultation with you.
As a man, when have you ever had someone give you their full attention for an hour at a time with the focus just being on you? Therapy is a place for you to be heard, where your thoughts, feelings, opinions matter, it’s a place where you will not be criticized or made to feel like you don’t matter. Counselling will enable you to learn how to express your emotions effectively and create the possibility of having the life and relationships you desire.
When and Why to Seek Treatment?
Men have struggles that are unique to being a male, for example, most men feel the burden of taking care of their spouses and families financially. Men often try to solve problems on their own as they believe involving their spouses will create a burden for them, so they don’t share what’s happening in their lives. Often, men can struggle with anger, stress, addiction, being withdrawn in their relationships, infidelity, and not being open with their emotions. If any of these struggles are present in your life, the counselling is a great way to permanently break your unhelpful patterns.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is therapy confidential?
Absolutely. Psychotherapy is built on the foundation of confidentiality. As professionals, it is our responsibility to ensure that we do everything we can reasonably do to ensure your anonymity. If you choose virtual sessions, be assured that we only use the professional version of Zoom which has professional level security.
How long does therapy take?
In the same way that it has taken time to develop patterns that don’t work, it takes time to break these patterns and create new ones. But many clients start to feel better after the first session. Clients can expect to can new insights, identify their patterns and interrupt them after 4-6 sessions. We do not believe in quick fixes since quick fixes never last, in the same way a crash diet is only temporary. We believe that changing one’s patterns has the potential for creating generational change, so doing the hard emotional and behavioural work pays off over time.
Do you offer virtual sessions?
Yes. Every member of our team offers virtual sessions, so no matter which day of the week works for you, one of our team members will be available for you.
